What is a portfolio?
A portfolio is the set of assets you actually hold — not a watchlist, and not a single ticker you feel strongly about.
A portfolio is the collection of positions you own at the same time: stocks, funds, crypto, cash, and anything else sitting in the account.
It is not your watchlist. It is not “the one name I talk about.” It is the mix that will actually move your net worth when the tape moves.
Why the mix matters
Each holding does two jobs:
- It expresses a view (this company, this sector, this theme).
- It takes up risk budget that something else cannot use.
A book that is 80% one semiconductor name is a semiconductor book, even if the remaining 20% is “diversified.”
A simple way to look at yours
- List every position and its weight.
- Group by sector, region, and asset type.
- Ask which single name or theme would hurt most if it dropped 20%.
That last question is concentration. Midas surfaces it so you can see the book you have, not the book you meant to have.
